Metal roofs, for example, are much more expensive than asphalt shingles, but they provide better protection against damage from the sun’s UV rays and extreme temperatures.

Wood Shingles and Wood Shakes Roofing
Wood shingles and shakes are designed with a variety of purposes in mind, from creating a weather-proof covering for your roof to creating an attractive addition to the exterior of your home. The most obvious difference between wood shingles and shakes is their appearance. Wood shakes are typically made from thin layers of wood that have been pressed together to create a smooth surface. Shingles are made from thicker sections of wood that have been cut into smaller pieces.

Hiring a roofing contractor is a big decision. Your roof is one of the most essential parts of your home, and you want to ensure it’s in good hands. But with so many roofing contractors, do you know you’re making the right choice? This article will give you a checklist of questions about wearing a roofing contractor. Asking these questions will help you narrow down your options and find the right contractor for the job.
How Long Has the Contractor Been in Business?

This is crucial information, but you might not expect it to be so important. Many roofing contractors are just fly-by-night operations that are set up to fail. If a contractor has been around for a while, you can be more confident in their stability. If a contractor has been in business for a long time, it’s a good sign that they’re doing things right. Depending on the contractor’s history, you might even be able to ask for references from other customers. If a contractor has been in business for a long time, but you can’t find references, that’s a red flag.
Is the Contractor Licensed and Insured?

A licensed contractor has passed a state or federal exam and has proven they know what they’re doing. If a contractor is licensed and insured, they have a higher level of professionalism than contractors who don’t have these credentials.

If a contractor isn’t licensed, they probably don’t care about the quality of their work or the safety of their employees. If a contractor is licensed and insured, they can be held accountable in something goes wrong. If a licensed contractor makes a mistake, they can be fined by the state.

An insurance policy will protect you if something goes wrong and the contractor doesn’t have the money to fix it. Licensing and insurance are good and reasonable indications that a contractor takes their work seriously.
What Type of Warranty Does the Contractor Offer?

A contractor’s warranty can be a good indicator of how well they work. A reliable contractor will stand behind their work and provide a good warranty. A contractor who doesn’t offer a warranty or only has a short warranty probably doesn’t believe in their work.

A warranty can make a big difference in roofing, and you might want to hire a contractor who offers an extended warranty. Roofing is a complex process, and many variables can use problems. Asking how long the warranty is will help you better understand contractors’ confidence in their work.
What is the Contractor’s Track Record?

This is a tricky question, although it’s one of the most important ones on this list. You want to hire a contractor with a track record of successful projects.

Suppose a contractor’s previous projects were successful. In that case, you could expect the same from your project more confidently than if a contractor’s previous projects were unsuccessful, and you’ll probably be dealing with many of the same issues on your project.

Asking a contractor for references can be helpful. Still, they may not provide you with the necessary information. References are often given specific instructions on what to say, which makes them less reliable. To get a better idea of a contractor’s track record, ask them to provide you with the contact information of a previous customer. You can then call the customer and better understand the contractor’s performance.
How Does the Contractor Communicate With Its Customers?

Communication is important in any business relationship, especially when working with a contractor. A good contractor will talk with you about your project and keep you regularly updated on the status. A contractor who doesn’t regularly keep you in the loop doesn’t care about your satisfaction. Communication is a good indication of how the contractor will work with you throughout the project.

Communication starts before you even hire the contractor. When you search for a contractor, you want to give them as much information about your project as possible. Make sure you let them know about all their project variables so they can give you an accurate quote.
What is the Contractor’s Price?

It’s essential to hire a contractor whose price fits your budget. However, it would be best never to skimp on quality for a cheaper price. If a contractor’s price is significantly lower than the others, there’s probably a reason for it. A contractor with a lower price might cut corners or hire less experienced workers. When it comes to roofing, you want to hire quality over quantity. You’ll avoid issues in the future if you hire a contractor who charges a little more.
Even if a contractor’s price is higher, they might still be a better choice. If one contractor’s price is significantly higher than another, it could be because they provide a higher level of service. A higher price might be worth it if the contractor has a history of successful projects.
What is the Contractor’s Availability?

You want to hire a contractor that is available to work on your roof as soon as possible. Roofing contractors are in high demand during the spring and summer months. If you hire a contractor who only works during the slower winter months, your project might take a long time to start.

You don’t want to hire a contractor who is only available in a month or two. You also don’t want to hire a contractor who only works during summer when the roofing business is booming.

A contractor that is only available during the busy season will be booked for the rest of the year. You should never hire a contractor who is only available for a few months out of the year.
Conclusion

When hiring a roofing contractor, you want to ensure they are the right choice. The best way to do this is by asking them the above questions. How long they have been in business, whether they are licensed and insured, what type of warranty they offer, what their track record is, how they communicate, and what their availability is will help you narrow down your choices and find the right contractor for the job.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
This company is fantastic. They came out here, they did their job and they cleaned up after themselves and they left. It came a really good rain that evening, found a very small leak, called Mr Nutt and there was someone knocking on my door within 2 hours. No more problems everything is great. Would highly recommend this company and will use again.
Had brand new roof installed in February 2017 started leaking in March 2018 called company serval times, when I finally got a response the owner came out to fix the leak.
The came out for the free estimate and the price was good. The contractor was very nice and truthful.
